I’m always looking for great songs that are creative and can be inspirational to myself and my students. The Beatles as most of us know were absolutely brilliant songwriters and always inspirational. I’m using their song In My Life as a tool to teach some different chordal ideas that you could use for an introduction to this piece. Even if you learn one chord from this entire lesson that would make me happy. The idea here is to just try and grasp onto anything you can, memorize it, and then forget about it. I’ve used some basic chords and I’ve used some fairly advanced chords in this introduction, but hopefully, there is something in here for everybody. I just wanted to take an idea such as a full root position barre chord and start to manipulate it to get other chords. I also wanted to show how larger chords can sometimes have smaller chords inside of them and how using a chromatic bass line can really add a lot to a song. I always say that learning music is difficult, but it’s one of the most rewarding things you can ever do. If you like this introduction or even a few of the chords just please be patient and practice. Stay relaxed with it and sooner than later you will be making music.
