Any scale can take years to master. I feel music can never truly be mastered but practicing in all 12 keys for me is a “must”! I’ve been guilty of using scale and arpeggio shapes for far too long, and honestly it has set my playing back. I’m learning that if you truly take the time to practice licks, scales, arpeggios, etc. in ALL 12 keys you will get better results faster. It’s a hard habit to start but once you do you might be pleasantly surprised. The altered scale is taken from the 7th mode of the melodic minor scale and is extremely popular in the “Jazz Vocabulary”. If you enjoyed this lesson and would like a little more altered scale information please check out Lesson 11: An Altered V7-I Phrase Inspired By Kurt Rosenwinkel. Being an individual and finding your own voice is not an easy task, but it is extremely important in the world of improvisational music so please be patient and try your best to come up with your own ideas. I hope you enjoy this lesson.
